Last week I talked about a workshop that was held at HeartFelt Yoga. In that post I only spoke about half of the day. The other half was spent discussing compassion. At this time I think this is a very important topic to touch on.
Maybe, like me, you find your emotions all over the place and ever changing. The main two emotions that I have been feeling over the last week or so, would have to be confusion and fear. I don’t know how all of this will affect my life. With the temporary closure of the studio, it is already financially affecting me. But this is small and insignificant to what others are dealing with at this time- my family and myself all have our health and for that I am thankful!
When we are feeling these intense emotions we want to make sure that we acknowledge these emotions and not try to damper them. If we push them away there is a possibility that they will come back even stronger. It is okay to be angry and sad and depressed and happy…. All emotions are okay and allowed. I have had a good couple of cries already- crying is therapeutic!
If we can be compassionate with ourselves in this extreme situation, we will come out of this stronger than we were before hand. As Shelly said in her workshop, it is not self-indulgent to be compassionate to yourself. Maybe you need a morning to lay in bed or maybe an hour to do yoga. We deserve care, now and always, more so from ourselves than anyone else in our lives. If we make it okay to feel what we feel, we can move forward faster than we would if we ignore it all- those heavy emotions will weigh you down.
I recommend reading this article-https://www.mindful.org/the-transformative-effects-of-mindful-self-compassion/ to learn more about the effects of self compassion.
Stay safe and healthy!
Until next time,
Sandra
